The experience was so valuable

“Working with Jen was such an amazing experience. I signed up for a couple of mentorship sessions with her. The experience was so valuable! Jen is a natural teacher and is so encouraging which is so important when I'm working through nerves. She makes the sessions fun and engaging. We had a model sit in for each of the sessions and Jen struck the perfect balance of having me lead while also guiding me along the way. I am so happy with how the photos came out!”.

- Kathy Lee

I’m here and ready to support you as you build your confidence in knowing you have great photography skills and the ability to run a fulfilling and thriving photography business.

You know you need one-on-one support. You may already have purchased online photography courses on how to make 6 figures, get more clients, or stop offering one of your best-selling sessions altogether.

Chances are you’ve tried one or two of those methods too, and that’s ok, I’ve been there too.

But believe me when I tell you that you can swoon over all the Instagram posts, watch all the online videos and wish and dream for higher calibre images but none of it matters if you never take the step to learn how to be confident in approaching clients, pricing your work and making mistakes to learn from so you can excel and thrive in your photography business.

Ways we can work together:

Each session serves as a container to help uncover any hurdles or struggles you encounter with your photography. My goal is to assist you in meeting you where you’re at and identifying what’s unfolding or not when it comes to your photography practices through various tools and approaches, including but not limited to:

  • Writing and creative exercises to help overcome creative blocks or hurdles you may be experiencing.

  • Support with pricing, creating quotes, and contracts and building sustainable business practices.

  • Actionable steps to build a stable foundation for your business to grow year after year.

  • Portfolio review of the work you love and hate to uncover what is and isn't working.

  • Personal or creative project ideation.

  • Lighting and Gear review: in-person guided lessons for off-camera flash, light modifiers or gear you may feel less confident using.

  • Session assessments and review: guidance during a photo session you plan and organize.

  • Tethering and post-production support.

  • Adaptability support with manual mode and changing scenarios on the fly.

  • Any support you need related to your photography practice and refining your craft.

“Working with Jen has made me more confident and has sparked my creativity back again!”

- Sheryl Luz

I’m Jen

And I’ve rebuilt my confidence and photography skills after years of doubting whether I could do it even with technical training.

When I started in this industry over 15 years ago I was a “late bloomer”, returning to school at the age of 27 years old for photography. I had big dreams of creating amazingly elaborate photographs and being hired by agencies and marketing firms alike.  After being a photographer assistant to many successful commercial and editorial photographers in Toronto and working with them to test, trial and perfect their lighting, and manage aspects of their day-to-day studio tasks and clients all while working in high-pressure environments, I learned a lot.

I wasted a lot of time trying to mimic other photographers’ styles, lighting, and stories. When I realized that, I decided to veer off the well-worn path most photographers take and made my own trail.

Fast forward to today where I’ve refined my style, learned how to operate a sustainable, profitable photography business, learned what I love (and don’t love) and routinely work on honing my craft so the work I create both brings me joy and is consistent across my portfolio.  I’m fortunate to also be teaching photography students at Centennial College in an editorial portrait class and a sustainable business class and Humber College in a photo fundamentals course.

I know my capabilities, my experience and how I got to where I am today.

In other words, I know my shit and am committed to helping other photographers exceed their wildest dreams when it comes to the photos they want to create and the business they want to run.

FAQs

  • Absolutely! These mentorships are for photographers at any stage in their careers. Just starting out or maybe just needing a technical tune-up, I can help you overcome any of your photography hurdles to help you refine your photography.

  • Most definitely. I love photographing with both natural light, off-camera flash and both. I love talking about lighting and technical aspects of photography and am also eager to share what I have found works for me and what doesn’t. A lot of it is practicing and playing!

  • The different between taking an online photo course and working with me is I will be able to customize solutions for your specific needs. Online courses are great for one-size fits all answers, but a lot of individual businesses have individual and unique problems. I can help curate custom solutions for your photography needs.

  • My 1-on-1 Mentorship options are between $1170-$2200 with monthly payment plan options available.

  • I am currently training for a Half Ironman triathlon. That’s 70.3 miles of swimming, biking and running. I have a coach and have invested in a minimum of months of training so I can set myself up to do my absolute best. I share this because I think a lot of people look for a quick CHEAP fix, but they don’t get the results they want. The same goes for photography. If you can invest in your craft and skill, do it. If you can’t, put some money aside each month and work on your craft by practicing until you can invest in yourself.

  • Totally! Regardless of what stage of your photography career is at, I can share the things that worked for me and share anecdotes of colleagues’ experiences, brainstorm ideas, and provide solutions that have worked for me or we can hash out a new creative project you want to try. I’m an open book too so you can ask all of your burning questions on how to start a photography career.
